What to expect
Sunday, November 1, at Pineridge Park in Sooke. You can get in from the 6600 block of Rhodonite Drive or from Pineridge Place, off Eakin Drive.
Bring your carved pumpkin any time after 1 p.m. and leave it with the volunteers. The walk starts at 5, once it is getting dark, and the forest path is lined with jack-o’-lanterns, lit. Last year people brought in 325 of them. Free, and kids under 12 need an adult with them.
There is a practical side as well. A pumpkin on the porch draws in bears, so Friends of Sooke Parks collects them all in one place and takes them to a local farm to be composted when the night is over.
Bring a flashlight for the walk back to the car.
