Party in the Park

West Shore Parks & Recreation turns 60 and throws a free day for the neighbourhood on September 12. Pancake breakfast, a family fun run, a performance stage, and $1.65 drop-in swims and skates all day.

Sixty years of West Shore Parks & Recreation, marked the way a rec centre should mark it: a free pancake and sausage breakfast, a fun run, and a stage on the lower fields. Saturday, September 12, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Family Fun Run offers 1 km and 3 km distances. On the stage, JaimesonRhy opens at 10 a.m., the ləkʷəŋən Traditional Dancers perform at 11:15, speeches and the cake cutting land at 11:45, then the Luke Lampard Band at 12:15 and Cookeilidh at 1:30. There is a dunk tank and family activities through the day.

The nicest touch is the throwback pricing: $1.65 drop-in fitness, swimming, and skating all day, which is what it cost when the place opened. Admission to the party itself is free.
