Peak rhododendron season, where to do a slow garden lap
If you only have one unhurried hour this week, point it toward the bloom-heavy corners of the city.
Victoria is in that brief, generous stretch where the rhododendrons look almost theatrical. The safest bet is Finnerty Gardens at UVic, where the paths are short, the canopy is thick, and every turn feels like it was staged.
If you want something closer to downtown, Government House remains the easy answer. The lower garden paths hold onto bloom a little longer, and it is one of the few places where a ten-minute loop can still feel like a reset.
Pack coffee, go early, and keep the plan loose. This is not a checklist stop. It is more the kind of local outing that reminds you why Victoria earns its garden-city reputation in the first place.
Two more bloom detours
- Abkhazi Garden is ideal if you want a quieter, more tucked-away experience with tea waiting at the end.
- Playfair Park is still one of the most reliable south-of-downtown spots for a shorter neighbourhood stroll.
